Kodi shortcut on Amazon Fire TV homescreen

Kodi shortcut on Fire TV Homescreen

Updated: If you already updated to Fire OS v5.0.5.1, this version of Fire OS will allow you to add sideloaded app icons including Kodi in “Recent Menu” section on homescreen. Below steps are not required.

Amazon Fire TV does not allow or create icons on homescreen for sideloaded apps. Therefore, the only way to launch Kodi is go to Settings -> Applications -> Manage All Installed Applications -> Kodi -> Launch Application. That’s a lot of clicking to launch Kodi. Fortunately there are ways to simplify this. With a workaround we can create Kodi shortcut on Amazon Fire TV home screen.

Install ikono TV App on Fire TV

First go to Amazon App Store, search for ikono TV App, and install it on your Amazon Fire TV. This app will never be used by you but it will serve a decoy to launch and run Kodi.

Create Kodi Shortcut on Amazon Fire TV Home Screen

If you have not already done so, download adbFire app. Extract it to its own folder in C drive. Open the adbFire app and follow the steps below.
Create Kodi Shortcut on Amazon Fire TV Home Screen
  1. Enter the IP Address of your Amazon Fire TV. The instructions to find the IP address are in my Kodi AFTV sideload guide.
  2. Hit Connect button.
  3. Click on Llama Options. A separate window will popup.
  4. If you do not have Llama app installed on your Fire TV then check the box to install it.
  5. Choose “Link Kodi to ikonoTV”.
  6. Choose “Replace ikonoTV icon with Kodi icon”.
  7. Click OK
Llama app, is an awesome app that automates a lot of things. In this case, we are going setup some rules in Llama that will create Fire TV kodi shortcut on homescreen. Let adbFire do its thing and proceed to completion. You will see a confirmation message like the one below.

Import Llama Settings

In the previous step adbFire app copied some Llama automating rules to your Amazon Fire TV. Now, you will have to import those settings into the Llama app. So go to Settings -> Applications-> Manage All Installed Applications -> Llama -> Launch Application.
Click on the Llama settings icon on the lower left corner and then select “Import/Export Data”.

Next, choose “Import from USB Storage” and click “YES” to confirm import. Upon successful import, you will see confirmation message on the screen.

Reboot Amazon Fire TV

Finally, reboot your Amazon Fire TV by pressing Select and Play buttons for more than 5 seconds. You should now see Kodi shortcut on your Amazon FireTV’s homescreen.
